Chinatown

chinatown.jpg

Burned to the ground in 1906 and then rebuilt, with an exploding population after changes to immigration laws in the 1960s, Chinatown is a city to itself in many ways with its own Chamber of Commerce, museums, and civic groups. Also gangs. And a surprisingly large number of Mexicans and other non-Asians.

Places: Chung King Road (art galleries), Chinatown Central Plaza, Thien Hau Temple (Taoist temple and Christian church), LA Historic Park, Union Station, Hop Louie (dive bar)
